Major Projects at Northern Region Malaysia
Infrastructure Projects
Three (3) new highways in Penang Island (Pan Island Link (PIL) 1, PIL 2 & PIL 2A)- The proposed 19.5km span PIL 1 is a highway project from Bukit Gedung to the Bayan Lepas interchange.
- The highway will include a 10km tunnel that cuts through the hills in Bukit Bendera, Paya Terubong and Sungai Ara.
- The highway will be able to accommodate potential increase in travel demands from the enlarged Penang International Airport, expansion of the Bayan Lepas
- Industrial Zone and the proposed reclaimed islands in the Southern Coast of Penang Island.
- The proposed 8km PIL 2 and 3km PIL 2A are together with the southern section of PIL 1 from the Southern Ring Road for Penang Island.
- The proposed PIL 2 and PIL 2A will be constructed as dual two lane road.
- This project will be located along the coast of Kuala Sungai Sanglang until Simpang Ampat, Kuala Perlis.
- The construction of Sanglang Integrated Jetty is expected to begin in September this year end expected to be completed by 2020.
Mixed Development Project
Penang Science Park- Penang Science Park which is developed by Penang Development Corporation (PDC) involves the area of Batu Kawan, Bukit Tambun and Changkat in Seberang Perai Selatan districts.
- Penang Science Park focus on strategic industries such as high tech, biotech, halal industries and small medium industry (SMI) park.
- Penang Science Park had attracted investments from local and international companies to expand their manufacturing operation.
IKEA Batu Kawan
- • IKEA Batu Kawan which is under construction is built on a 245-acre plot at Batu Kawan.
- • The construction of IKEA at Batu Kawan is expected to be completed by end of 2018 and
- is scheduled to open in March 2019.
- • The location of the store is in close proximity to the Penang Second Bridge.
Special Border Economic Zone
- The Special Border Economic Zone(SBEZ) comprises of 4.451 hectares located at Bukit Kayu Hitam are planned for Duty Free Zone and regional logistic hub between Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia (IMT-GT). It is a mixed development project comprises free industrial zone, commercial centre, affordable and luxury housing scheme, shopping complex, recreational park as well as educational centre.
- The project, to be developed by Northern Gateway Sdn Bhd, will consist of seven phases and expected to be fully completed in the next 20 years.
Kampar Terminal
- A modern premier multi-story integrated regional bus terminal. The project will be constructed on a 3.72-acre site located nearby Kampar General Hospital which will consist of a 12-storey hotel and a 5-store bus terminal.
- The project is still under construction and on course to meet its operation launch by last quarter of 2018.
- The facilities include retail shop, bowling alley, badminton court, gymnasium, cinema, food court, supermarket, banquet hall, learning cafe and library.
Silverlakes Brand Village (SBV)
- Developed by Silverland And Syarikat Maju Perak Bhd. It is located across Batu Gajah KTM Station. As for the first phase, there will be retail shopping, food and beverage outlet, a fourstar international hotel and a convention centre.
- SBV is a discounted outlet shopping mall on a 35-acre of prime landside development in the Kinta Valley. It is a great family destination development and first of its kind retail resort in Perak targeted to open in Q4 2019
